Zach Cregger's Resident Evil Is Now the Highest-Rated Live-Action Video Game Adaptation

Are you excited about the film?

Resident Evil is one of the video game franchises with the most film adaptations. Back in January 2025, it was announced that Zach Cregger, the comedian, actor, and filmmaker behind Barbarian and Weapons, was working on a Resident Evil movie.

Cregger's movie is set during the events of Resident Evil 2 (1998), and it follows the story of Bryan Hodukavich, a medical courier who has to deliver cargo to the Raccoon City General Hospital.

In an interview, the director said that he underestimated what fans wanted, but added that he hoped people would give the film a chance. It appears they have, as his film has now become the highest-rated live-action video game adaptation of all time.

As of right now, the movie holds a critical score of 96% on Rotten Tomatoes, despite not having been released yet; it's set to come out September 18, with early screenings and international rollouts starting September 17.
