ZBrush continues its transition to Maxon.
Following the acquisition news, the ZBrush team updated its subscription policy revealing that perpetual licenses acquired after December 29, 2021, will not receive free upgrades. Previously, all the updates used to always be free, though the team always noted that licenses are entitled to one year of free upgrades. Now you need a subscription to get upgrades.
"Perpetual licenses never expire. You pay a one-time cost for your license and own it from that point forward. Purchases of perpetual licenses after December 29, 2021, can only receive critical bug fix updates. Feature upgrades would require the purchase of an upgrade license (pricing and frequency yet to be determined)," says the new license FAQ page.
There's also a new upgrade page noting that subscription licenses automatically receive free upgrades while customers, who purchased a perpetual license after December 29, 2021, will now only get bug fixes.
"ZBrush perpetual customers who purchased prior to December 29, 2021, are entitled to free updates for one year following their purchase. No free upgrades will be included for customers who purchased a perpetual license after December 29, 2021," states the upgrade page.
Previously, Pixologic announced that ZBrush will be joining Maxon and their software ecosystem.
"The ZBrush team led by Ofer Alon (Pixolator) will continue to bring you the most cutting-edge innovations in digital sculpting. This commitment to excellence has been our philosophy since the inception of ZBrush twenty-four years ago. With the addition of the talented Maxon team and our combined know-how, the future for existing and new ZBrush users looks brighter than ever," wrote the team.
