Character Artist Fei Huang has recreated the famous photo of Ernesto "Che" Guevara using Maya, ZBrush, and Substance 3D Painter.
Fei Huang, a 3D Character Artist who specializes primarily in realistic portraits of real-life people, has recently shared a new outstanding model inspired by one of the most iconic and recognizable photographs ever taken.
This time, the creator presented a photorealistic 3D take on the legendary Cuban revolutionary Ernesto "Che" Guevara, based on the well-known 1960 photo taken by Alberto Corda. According to the artist, the portrait was set up using Maya, ZBrush, Mari, Substance 3D Painter, and Arnold, as well as TexturingXYZ's VFace.
"I've always wanted to print a Guevara avatar t-shirt, and struggled with the lack of high-resolution photos, so why not just make one myself?" commented the creator. "I researched a lot of things in the process and distilled a lot of valuable experience in the exploration. Age-old historical figures are really difficult to do, the reference is the biggest obstacle, as well as reference in the unverifiable age range."
Here are some behind-the-scenes shots shared by the artist:
