The Poly Hammer team has announced Blender MetaHuman DNA, an exciting new add-on that lets you customize Unreal Engine's MetaHumans in Blender. This tool allows users to import DNA files into Blender, providing a seamless 1-to-1 integration with the facial rig logic, similar to Unreal Engine's functionality. With this add-on, you can make adjustments in Blender and quickly send them back to your Unreal project in just one click.
According to the developers, the add-on uses Unreal's default RigLogic module, which they've compiled along with the DNA modules into the add-on. Typically, you would have to do this yourself, but the devs have made it super simple by providing Docker images and a GitHub workflow that you can easily fork and run to pull the necessary code and build it for your own production.
Poly Hammer also noted that the morph targets are updated directly on the Unreal Skeletal Mesh, with the DNA updated afterward so that RigLogic is aware of the changes to the Skeletal Mesh.
"You can import your facial customizations onto your blueprint that has a body," commented the team. "But currently, the add-on is scoped to editing just the face since that is the most complex part of the workflow when creating custom MetaHumans. But depending on interest we could make a '1-click' workflow for the body as well."
At the moment, Blender MetaHuman DNA is still WIP, but it's already possible to receive the add-on for free once it is released by signing up within the next 28 days. We highly encourage you to visit Poly Hammer's official website for more details on how to get the toolset free of charge.
