François Larrieu demonstrated how he worked on making the car look weathered.
François Larrieu presented a cool shader for a police car, inspired by The Last of Us, created to transfer an "abandoned, dilapidated" atmosphere.
The shader was set up in Unreal Engine 5, allowing the artist to tweak its parameters in real time right in the engine. It can change the car's colors, including gradients and intensity.
"It's obviously not the most optimized, cleanest, or most efficient shader you'll ever see, but I learned a lot while making it, and that was my whole goal, to step outside my comfort zone and try to do things differently."
You can learn from Larrieu about how to create rusty cars and modular sci-fi environments in our interviews with him. Also, check out his ArtStation for more.
