An Artist Showcases a Photorealistic 3D Scene With Iceland Vibes

The environment was made using 3ds Max, Substance 3D Painter, Gaea, and Unreal Engine 5.

Damien Peinoit, an experienced 3D Instructor and Freelance Environment Artist who previously worked with such companies as Blur Studio or ILM, has recently showcased a great photorealistic 3D environment created as a personal project.

Dubbed "Winter Cabin", the scene depicts a lonely and decrepit house standing in the middle of a wintery landscape that somewhat resembles some of the remote locations in Iceland and Scotland. According to the author, the scene was created to experiment with a new pipeline for creating 3D environments.

To set up the scene, Damien leveraged such programs as 3ds Max, RailCone, Substance 3D Painter, Gaea, and Unreal Engine 5.3, using the latter's Lumen and Nanite tools to set up GI and reflections. Additionally, the author utilized William Faucher's EasyFog plug-in to achieve the desired atmosphere and the IA Scatter plug-in to add rocks and gravel.

In addition, the artist wrote a short poem to describe the environment:

In winter's grasp, a cabin stands alone,

On a desolate island, all on its own.

The cabin's walls, they whisper a tale,

Of solitude, courage, and nature's unveiled.

In this wintery haven, a refuge to find,

Peace in the stillness, for heart and for mind.
