Artist Celebrates PlayStation 30th Anniversary With a Stunning Diorama

Cal Steel showcased several highly detailed PS-themed props made in 3ds Max, ZBrush, and Substance 3D.

Cal Steel, a 3D Environment Artist at Build A Rocket Boy, has celebrated the 30th anniversary of PlayStation in perhaps the greatest way possible, unveiling a stunning 3D diorama brimming with nostalgic retro vibes.

Inspired by Did Somebody Say Retro's real-life setup, the scene comprises several highly detailed, custom-made, PlayStation-themed assets, including an original console itself, a controller, several CDs, a memory card, and even an old-school Sony PVM-6041QM monitor, brought to life by Cal using 3ds Max, ZBrush, Substance 3D Painter, and Marmoset Toolbag. Additionally, the author used Megascans' cardboard box basemesh and wooden tabletop to complete the scene.

And here are some of Cal's earlier works, you can check out more by visiting the author's ArtStation page:

Speaking of PlayStation's anniversary, Sony itself also approached the occasion creatively, releasing a limited collection of PS5 and PS5 Pro consoles in retro designs. Unfortunately for Japanese fans, the company implemented restrictions for pre-order applications in Japan, requiring that the customer uses PlayStation Network with a Sony account registered in Japan and uses PS5, PS4, or both for more than 30 hours between Saturday, February 22, 2014, and Thursday, September 19, 2024.
