Artist Shows a UE5 Horror Lighting Study Featuring Hinako from Silent Hill f

This lighting study in Unreal Engine 5 will make you feel uneasy. Would Hinako from Silent Hill f survive here?

Yongjae Choe, Lighting Artist, shared on ArtStation how they did a lighting study in Unreal Engine 5. Taking inspiration from Lenz Monath's environment of Saigon Alley, they decided to do a scene in a horror style. The scene also features a fan model of Hinako from the recently released Silent Hill f.

Choe added that they focused on creating different atmospheres for each cut, and did a test with AGX and ACES, using both settings to color the image, finding it easier to achieve the desired colors with AGX.

The scenes have a mix of blue, black, and red, creating eerie, unsettling, lonely, but interesting atmospheres. Each scene shows the settings and vibes we usually expect from a horror installment.

The mix of cold colors, the subtle lighting, a lonely figure between tall buildings, and what looks like fog makes you feel like something will come out of nowhere, and there will be no escape. As a fan of horror, I think it's amazing.
