Impressive Anvil Engine tech
Ubisoft has officially revealed Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, a modern remake of the 2013 fan-favorite pirate adventure, is set to launch on July 9 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
This has been one of the worst-kept secrets in gaming for quite some time, with even the official social account for Assassin's Creed subtly making fun of the leaks. Black Flag Resynced aims to preserve the core identity of the original while enhancing it for modern hardware, and it looks stunning visually.
The game revisits the story of Edward Kenway, bringing back the original voice cast and iconic historical figures such as Blackbeard and Anne Bonny, while maintaining the Caribbean setting that helped define the series’ most beloved entry.
From a technical standpoint, the remake has been rebuilt using the latest version of Ubisoft’s Anvil engine, introducing a range of visual improvements alongside systemic upgrades. These include modern lighting, enhanced environmental detail, and seamless world traversal, alongside updated gameplay systems designed to improve overall flow and responsiveness.
Rather than shifting toward the RPG-style direction seen in more recent entries like Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, the project remains focused on delivering a tightly designed, character-driven experience. Ubisoft has also emphasized quality-of-life improvements across both land and naval gameplay, ensuring the core loop feels modern without losing the original’s pacing and structure.
According to Ubisoft, development has included targeted workshops to ensure updates enhance the experience without straying too far from what made Black Flag resonate in the first place.
Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced releasing on July 9 is a big deal, as the original is still regarded as one of the best games of its era, so the remake marks one of Ubisoft’s most significant upcoming launches.
