They're pretty fitting.
When I heard Larian made underwear a piece of garment you can take off in Baldur's Gate 3, my imagination offered me some wild ideas about why it was so and where it could be used. Well, one of the reasons is apparently hiding in your companions' pants, so if you haven't explored them, you should.
As TheGamer pointed out, there is a cheeky message hiding in each character's underwear. For example, Astarion's reads: "Embroidered into the cloth: "If you're reading this, you managed to bed or behead me. Either way, you got lucky." (You got me here.)
Shadowheart's pants say, "If pants could brood..." and Lae'zel's state, "Built for function rather than fun". Karlach's pair wonders what we have all thought, "How do these not burn off?" while Gale's says, "Energy crackles around these. Gale wouldn't... Surely he wouldn't enchant his...", and Wyll's read, "Long may these gird the Blade of Frontiers". Then we have Jaheira's with little ducks embroidered into the cloth.
I'm most surprised with myself, to be honest, because I didn't pay attention to such an important piece of clothing, which doesn't sound like me at all.
Anyway, all these messages sound pretty fitting and add charm to the characters (and another reason to take their underwear off). If you want to know more about what's going on under these pants, check out this article where the game's lead character artist explains why there are no face sliders and how players can express themselves with genital customization.
