Battle for iOS Continues as Apple Blocks Fortnite in US

Sad news for the Epic Games Store in EU, too.

Epic Games

Epic Games revealed that Apple blocks its Fortnite submission from the US App Store and the Epic Games Store for iOS in the European Union. "Now, sadly, Fortnite on iOS will be offline worldwide until Apple unblocks it."

Here's a quick recap if you don't follow this epic (pun intended) battle. Five years ago, Apple removed Fortnite from the App Store for promoting Epic's own payment system, which started a lengthy legal fight between the companies.

Last year, Fortnite returned to iPhones in the EU after Apple was forced to allow third-party marketplaces, but the company blocked Epic Games' developer account later. It promised to activate it after the European Commission took issue with that.

In August, the game returned to iOS in the EU. However, days ago, Epic's CEO, Tim Sweeney, shared that the company had submitted an update for Apple's review but didn't get any response, stuck in the review limbo for days. So no, you can't play the game once again.

You can almost feel Apple tensing in efforts to create new obstacles for Epic Games, and I'm sure we'll see Fortnite come back to and away from iOS. Apple is fighting tooth and nail to keep all the money it can.
