Bethesda Boss Discusses Potential Franchise Adaptations After Fallout

Just as with the situation 10 years ago regarding a Fallout adaptation, the answer is 'No', for now.

The complete Fallout TV series debuted on Amazon Prime Video just yesterday. Despite its fresh release, it has predominantly earned positive reviews in its first day.

It's no surprise that Todd Howard, director and executive producer at Bethesda Game Studios, frequently faces questions regarding potential adaptations of other Bethesda properties, notably, The Elder Scrolls.

Speaking to IGN on the red carpet of Fallout's premiere earlier this week, Howard was straightforward about the prospects of adapting other Bethesda properties for TV.

"I don't know. There's nothing in the works," he says. "Everybody asks, like, about Elder Scrolls, and I keep saying no also. And I would approach those - I'll probably say no. You never know if someone's gunna click. But I think this really came out of, 'we think things are aligning to do a high-quality job.' It wasn't forced. It was kind of a natural relationship and 'hey, this sounds really cool.' As opposed to, 'we should have a show,' right? It never came from that."

Interestingly, Howard had initially resisted the idea of a Fallout TV show, as he stated:

"This is something that I said no to for like, a decade," Howard says. "Everyone wanted to make a (Fallout) TV show or a movie, and I was like, 'nahhh.' I wasn't really feeling it."

A decade on, the Fallout series has not only been created but has also been renewed for a second season by Amazon. While the possibility of having an adaption for the Elder Scrolls seems slim at the moment, there could be potential for it in the future.

Speaking of Fallout, the fifth installment, which is slated to be the studio's subsequent game after Elder Scrolls 6, had some of its details disclosed just last month.
