Bethesda's Boss Discusses Plans for the Next Fallout Game

"We don’t feel like we need to rush any of that."

Bethesda's boss, Todd Howard, recently shared his views on a new Fallout game in an hour-long interview with YouTuber MrMattyPlays, possibly disappointing some Fallout fans. The interview covered all things Bethesda Game Studios, from Elder Scrolls and Fallout to Starfield.

Todd Howard

Following the launch of Amazon's Fallout series, Fallout 76 saw a surge in concurrent users on Steam, a notable increase confirmed by Howard. Both new players and long-time fans of the franchise have been contemplating and inquiring about when the next main title will be released, especially considering it's been roughly eight years since the launch of Fallout 76.

However, Howard indicates that despite the increased interest in the franchise, the studio doesn't plan on rushing the development of another Fallout title to capitalize on this momentum.

The discussion regarding the future of Fallout games begins around the 4-minute 30-second mark, where Howard stated:

"Obviously I can’t talk about those right now, but I would say rushing through them, or feeling the need to get stuff out that is different from the work we’re doing in 76... We don’t feel like we need to rush any of that. Right now, the Fallout TV show fills a certain niche in terms of the franchise and storytelling.

Those things take time. I don’t think it’s bad for people to miss things, as well. We just want to get it right and make sure that everything we’re doing in a franchise, whether it’s Elder Scrolls, Fallout, or now Starfield, becomes meaningful moments for everybody who loves these franchises as much as we do."
