Blender Studio Releases Its First 4K HDR Short Film, Singularity
Check out how Blender Studio combines a watercolor-inspired visual style with generative simulations in this compelling story about a little creature lost in space.
Blender has released its short film Singularity, a painterly space adventure directed by Andy Goralczyk. The film explores Blender's capabilities in stylized rendering, animated effects, and high-quality images. Singularity is Blender Studio's first 4K HDR film, so it is best experienced on a large screen.
Set in the depths of space long before our time, the film follows a little creature whose home is suddenly destroyed by an ominous black hole. He finds refuge among a group of luminous creatures, and together, they seek salvation with a mysterious celestial being.

Singularity was created with the most recent in-development version of Blender. During the production of the film, the team expanded the Brushstroke Tools library with new painterly assets and used Geometry Nodes to develop procedural crowd animation systems.

The art style, led by Art Director Vivien Lulkowski, draws on the artistic manner of watercolor. The influence of traditional media, manifesting in hand-crafted textures and brush strokes, intertwines with generative effects, creating a unique impression and an organic style of the little creatures, contrasting with the geometrical shape of the black hole. The fascinating soundtrack by Composer Dario Vero enhances the story, making it feel more immersive and large-scale.
