Bungie Won Lawsuit Against Destiny 2 Player Harassing Employees

He has to pay nearly $500,000.

Bungie has won the lawsuit against Jesse James Comer, a Destiny 2 player who had been harassing the company's employees since last year.

In 2022, a Bungie worker promoted the artwork of a Black creator, which enraged Comer, and he "started his campaign of racist, stochastic terrorism" against the employee and the studio. Comer obtained the number of the said employee and their family and left a series of voicemails using TextNow, a service for anonymous calling. According to the case summary, Comer "repeatedly asked that the Does [the employee and their spouse] convince Bungie to create options in its game in which only persons of color would be killed."

Comer also sent a pizza to the Does' house to show he knew where they lived and then sent a voicemail saying, "Enjoy the pizza."

Comer "doxed D. Doe, then sent racist and abusive messages to him, escalated to attacking D. Doe’s wife, and continued escalating into real-world physical contact by means of the pizza delivery."

Bungie took matters into its hands and managed to identify the offender. Eventually, it won the case, and now Comer has to pay $489,435.

Bungie is known for its strong legal standing. Last year, it sued a Destiny 2 streamer MiffysWorld for cheating, infringing copyrights, and harassing its employees and then explained its stance on fighting cheating and harassment. Presumably after the incident with Comer, it had to cut communication with fans but kept fighting cheat sellers, winning against several, including AimJunkies, LaviCheats, and Mihai Claudiu-Florentin.
