Capcom is Aiming to Release a Resident Evil Game Every Year

"Being able to revisit older games and remake them helps Capcom meet that goal."

Capcom

In an interview featured in Game Informer's latest issue, Capcom producer Masachika Kawata spoke about the company's goal of releasing a Resident Evil game every year, adding that "producing a new entry in the Resident Evil series every year would be quite an undertaking and a difficult task," but that the remakes have been a way to achieve that goal.

"Being able to revisit older games and remake them helps Capcom meet that goal of releasing a Resident Evil title each year, but it also allows the team to continually challenge themselves and hone their craft," said Kawata. "That's not to say the remakes are any less important. In fact, they're just as important as the mainline titles."

Kawata also talked about how the success of the RE franchise has allowed Capcom to explore new ideas and other projects, like their action sci-fi game Pragmata (you can read the interview we did with the developers).

Resident Evil Requiem is the latest title in the franchise; it was released in February 2026 and is one of the highest-selling games of the year with over 8 million copies sold. Before that, the previous release was Resident Evil 4 Remake, which came out in 2023.

During Summer Game Fest 2026, Capcom announced the remake for Resident Evil Code: Veronica, and it's set to be released in 2027. Producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi shared some details and plans for the franchise.

Even though Kawata described the yearly release plan as just a goal, not a guarantee, Capcom already seems to be on track to achieve it, considering that Requiem was released in 2026 and Veronica is set for 2027.
