Have a look at this CG short film created in Blender by 3D Artist Vladislav Shablovsky, known on Reddit as GreenGuru.
Titled BRONEPEHOTA: Past Echoes, the film draws inspiration from Technolog's BRONEPEHOTA tabletop sets. The artist described it as their first major independent solo project, a personal, non-commercial tribute to those worlds, made entirely without AI. The goal was to create a grounded, photorealistic look. The film took roughly a year to complete, with the artist handling every stage of production, from concept to final edit and sound mix.
In a breakdown, Shablovsky shared that he kept the lighting setup simple, using Blender's physically based tools to achieve a convincing cinematic look. As the primary source for directional illumination, he used a Sun Light as the main source for directional illumination, with additional lights included in the scenes. The artist played with the contrast of warm sand and rock assets and the cool HDRI environment for the effect of visual separation and depth, while modified volumetric fog separates foreground from background.
The scenes were built using a small set of reusable assets and PBR materials; for example, canyon walls and rock formations include only two base rock models from open sources.
"The final atmosphere came from subtle volumetric illumination, low-intensity lights catching the smoke, and careful post-processing and color grading. The goal was to keep the robot readable without losing the mystery of the scene."
