A month ago, Principal Gameplay Animator Martin Chang, known online as TuxedoPato, greatly impressed us by showcasing a series of fluid running and jumping animations set up using a custom-made character rig in Maya and Unreal Engine, with the goal being to explore both animation and VFX.
Since then, the artist has continued experimenting with the rig, recently unveiling a new demo featuring a series of splendid attacking and cloth animations, along with a neat retreat move, wherein the character utilizes a Japanese-style parasol to swiftly change her direction and glide backward. As before, the animations were accompanied by impressive ink visual effects, with each footstep and sword slash leaving distinct ink stains on the ground.
