Check Out This Smooth Walk-Cycle Animation of Arcane's Jinx

Created by Nicolas Roth, the sequence showcases the power of Animation Layers in Maya.

Nicolas Roth, an experienced 3D Animator and Rigger, whose outstanding pieces never cease to amaze and inspire us, has recently showcased a stunningly smooth walk-cycle animation featuring everyone's favorite screwball from the Arcane TV series – Jinx.

As stated by Nicolas, he created this sequence specifically as educational material for his students at Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HSLU) in Switzerland. In his animation classes, he uses this walk-cycle to demonstrate the capabilities of Animation Layers, a toolset in Maya that lets you create and blend multiple levels of animation in a scene, set up layers to organize new keyframe animation, or keyframe on top of an existing animation without overwriting the original curves. "I often use them to implement feedback and be able to switch easily back and forth between older versions," commented Nicolas on his experience with Animation Layers.

Previously, Nicolas also joined 80 Level to share a concise breakdown of the Vesper – The Mad Emperor project, a neat stylized 3D character animation created for Agora Studio's AnimChallenge using Blender.

And prior to that, the author wowed for two days in a row with his fluid character dancing animation, inspired by a real-life dancer, and a highly realistic umbrella rig, set up in Blender and Marvelous Designer:

We highly encourage you to visit Nicolas' LinkedIn page to check out more of his amazing works. Don't forget to join our 80 Level Talent platform and our Telegram channel, follow us on InstagramTwitter, and LinkedIn, where we share breakdowns, the latest news, awesome artworks, and more.
