Check Out This Ultra-Realistic Japanese Alley 3D Environment

Set up in Maya and Unreal Engine, the scene can easily be mistaken for a real-life video.

As hard as it may be to believe at first glance, what you see in the video above isn't a stock clip of someone walking through an atmospheric Japanese alley, but rather what has to be one of the most realistic 3D environments ever created, showcased recently by 3DCG studio Colobito.

According to the creators, the scene in question is a recreation of the once-lively, now-semi-abandoned Michikusa Yokocho – a real-life alley located in Tokyo's Kagurazaka district – made to "capture the atmosphere of that time." To create the scene, the team utilized Maya, ZBrush, Substance 3D Painter, and Unreal Engine, alongside Photoshop and After Effects.
