Chinese Crafting Technique Recreated Using Substance 3D
Cino Lai shared another impressive work.
Cino Lai, Technical Artist at Adobe Substance 3D, impressed the audience with a new material setup, recreating a Chinese woodwork technique "mother-of-pearl inlay."
The traditional crafting involves polishing shells into thin slices, cutting them into various shapes, and then inlaying them piece by piece to form intricate patterns.
As explained by the artist, the digital materials were created in Substance 3D Designer, with two versions iterated to achieve the final result. The texture stitching was done in Substance 3D Painter.
Earlier, Cino Lai showcased a variety of amazing projects, such as a Substance 3D texturing pipeline, experiments with Substance 3D's automation capabilities, a showcase of the texture design process with the Substance 3D ecosystem in the fashion industry, a bead embroidery material, a realistic flower embroidery, and more, along with sharing a breakdown of the Substance Texture Design Pipeline of the Cell project:
