Closer Look at Taka's 3D Model from Mufasa: The Lion King

Valentina Rosselli shared some wonderful close-ups.

Disney

Mufasa: The Lion King is full of stunning animals, and it's important to recognize the artists behind their creation. Today, let's take a look at Valentina Rosselli's work on Taka and enjoy the little details up close at the same time.

Rosselli's effort is clearly seen in every strand of Taka's fur as well as his deep eyes. The artist, who was a character lead responsible for texturing and lookdev on the movie, made the lion's model herself, from sculpting with Mudbox and Mari to texturing and lookdev in Mari, Katana, and RenderMan.

"Exciting innovations were introduced in texture and lookdev, including a new fur material and lookdev pipeline which allowed us to achieve incredible variety in fur patterns and colours, adding depth and realism to each character," Rosselli shared.

If you recognize this intricate work with hair, it's because Rosselli has also created Honest John for Disney's Pinocchio, whom we've covered before. Learn how the artist created photoreal fur without scans in our interview.
