Crazy Realistic Machine Gun Animation in Maya & Unreal Engine

The iconic WW1 weapon is seen spewing lead in Micah Reigstad's latest masterpiece.

Micah Reigstad, a skilled 3D Artist and Animator, whose realistic military/weapon-themed animations are always a marvel to behold, has unveiled a new outstanding sequence imagining one of World War 1's most iconic weapons in action.

Presented from the first-person perspective of a German soldier engaging in suppressive fire, Micah's latest animation pays homage to the legendary Maschinengewehr 08 (MG 08), a Maxim gun-based machine gun used by Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Balkan Peninsula countries during WWI, depicting the combatant shooting, reloading, and customizing the firearm.

According to the author, the sequence was set up using Maya, Unreal Engine, and DaVinci Resolve, along with Vertex Interactive's The Forest asset pack. The MG 08 model itself was made by Kan_tv in Blender, Substance 3D Painter, and Marmoset Toolbag. Additionally, Micah collaborated with Anton Pasichnyk, who was responsible for VFX, and Navaro, who handled the sound design, to make the final scene as immersive as it turned out to be in the end.

And here are some more of Micah's mind-blowing weapon animations, we highly encourage you to visit the artist's ArtStation and Vimeo pages to check out the full arsenal:
