Cyberpunk 3D District Inspired by Chongqing, China

Enjoy neon signs and bright graffiti in Laura Grajales's Kaihō District, a modular environment inspired by cyberpunk worlds and the vertical density of Chongqing, China.
The Unreal Engine scene is Grajales's entry for the Rookie Awards 2026, with the food truck based on concept art by Taylor Allen, background props taken from Quixel Megascans, and modular kits, signs, and pipes made from scratch.
"Nations merged into a single union, seeking stability. From its new order, Kaihō District emerged. The floods are gone, but clean water never returned. What comes through the pipes is scarce, treated, often contaminated—just enough to survive. Beneath the bridge, survival became craft. Everything is repaired, repurposed, rebuilt until it feels like home.
"The lower districts faded from records, then from memory. Above, systems run clean and controlled. Below, nothing resets. People don’t stay for hope—they stay because it’s familiar. No rescue comes. No new beginning. Only endurance, and what it builds from what remains."
The modular kit was created using a single trim sheet, one texture atlas for the windows, four tileable materials, and one RGB mask. Grajales's workflow focused on a flexible material setup and clean UVs.
The artist created three custom materials, including a trim sheet, a roof texture, and a window texture atlas with emissive support.
The result is a clean environment set up with ZBrush, Blender, Substance 3D Painter, and Unreal Engine.
