Dave the Diver Sells Over 10 Million Copies
Mintrocket's 2023 action-adventure and tycoon fusion hit the milestone in late August.
South Korean game development studio Mintrocket celebrated 10 million sales across all platforms for Dave the Diver. This game is a combination of an action-adventure and a tycoon game. During the day, Dave, the main character, explores the deep blue waters and goes fishing. At night, he becomes a sushi restaurant manager, taking orders, serving meals, and cleaning the tables.
It was first released for PC in June 2023, followed by a Nintendo Switch version in October 2023. In 2024, it was released for PlayStation users, and in 2025, Xbox owners got their hands on the goofy pixel-art game. Dave the Diver quickly won the gamers' hearts, as just a couple of weeks after its release, the title sold 1 million copies. Three years later, Dave the Diver's worldwide sales hit 10 million copies, right after its DLC, In the Jungle, surpassed 1 million sales.
"Thank you, everyone, for all the love we never expected to receive. Making a game is one of the toughest jobs out there, but the players and this community are what keep us going. We'll keep focusing on what we believe in and stay humble along the way," shares Mintrocket CEO Jaeho Hwang on his LinkedIn.
Though it has an indie game feel to it, Dave the Diver was developed under a major game publisher, Nexon. Following its nomination for The Game Awards 2023 as an indie title, Mintrocket CEO clarified that the game was never marketed as an independent project and should not be treated as such.
Gamers are in love with Dave the Diver regardless: on Steam, it has overwhelmingly positive reviews. "The game does a really good job of mixing different types of gameplay," one user noted. Other players agree that the switch between various gameplay mechanics is fun, and it doesn't feel random.
On September 17, Mintrocket is releasing Dave the Diver mobile for iOS and Android. In February, the studio released the mobile version for Chinese gamers, and since then, it has been improving the experience to make the game worth the wait.
