Dinosaur Leg Muscle Simulation Gets Guillermo Del Toro's Approval
Guess what he said.
"Beautiful jiggle–" After all, who could argue with a legendary film director who knows a thing or two about creature design?
Atsushi Yasuoka has a portfolio packed with creatures that could easily fit into Monster Hunter. His latest dinosaur model is coming along nicely, with the legs gradually gaining flesh and a more convincing sense of anatomy. For this project, he's apparently using Blender, Maya, and Ziva VFX to set up the muscles. Scroll down to see the whole process:
Enjoy his take on the T. rex, from the initial skeleton to the final render, with the muscles fully in place:
Atsushi Yasuoka was understandably thrilled after discovering that Guillermo del Toro himself had noticed his work. Here's hoping the moment gives Yasuoka even more inspiration to keep building his intricately muscled creatures.
If you're missing Ziva VFX, we recommend checking out the work of Shirzad Bahrami, now a Senior Technical Animator at Activision Blizzard. He's currently developing HézFX, a muscle simulation tool inspired by Ziva VFX.
AdonisFX, a digital anatomy framework for Maya and Houdini, is also increasingly being seen as a potential alternative to Ziva VFX.
