Drumming in Unreal Engine 5 With the Help of Motion Capture

Cinematography Database's Matt Workman continues to experiment with mocap.

In case you missed it, earlier this week, Cinematographer and the owner of the Cinematography Database YouTube channel Matt Workman showcased a brand-new motion capture setup that combined Vicon's VFX and mocap software Shogun and Unreal Engine 5.

Following the initial demonstration, the creator continued to experiment with motion capture, introducing Drumcap as a new setup for playing drums in Unreal Engine 5. Currently work-in-progress, the setup was designed to be UE5 and UEFN-friendly, with the author revealing more information and sharing new updates and demos on a daily basis.

Moreover, the developer tested out Drumcap in Cine Tracer 2, a UE5-powered virtual filmmaking sandbox developed by Matt that allows filmmakers to visualize short films, commercials, and feature films:

Besides motion capture, Matt is also well-known for creating incredible digital outfits. Previously, the artist revealed multiple real-time clothing simulations made by combining MetaHuman clothing assets with Chaos and experimented with real-time clothing physics, showcasing a cool UE-powered cloth sim that could run on consumer gaming cards.

Back in 2020, Matt Workman also joined 80 Level to help us understand what a virtual camera is, how it works, and how it can help game developers and filmmakers. You can check out our interview with the author by clicking this link.
