Additionally, the publisher plans to lay off an undisclosed number of workers.
Electronic Arts has unexpectedly canceled its upcoming Black Panther game – first leaked in 2022 and officially announced in 2023 – and shut down its developer Cliffhanger Games, which was led by former Monolith Productions head Kevin Stephens.

While there hasn't been much buzz surrounding the game, with details being quite scarce and the development process largely under wraps, the shutdown still comes as a bit of a surprise, having been revealed not through a public announcement but in an internal email to staff from EA Entertainment President Laura Miele, obtained by IGN.
According to the email, the game and its creator were taken behind the barn because EA wants to "sharpen our focus and put our creative energy behind the most significant growth opportunities," though no concrete reasons were given beyond this PR-speak.
Alongside the shutdown of Cliffhanger and the cancellation of the Black Panther title, EA is also firing an undisclosed number of employees from its mobile and central teams, with this new round of cuts reported to be smaller than the one last month, which affected around 300 to 400 workers.
"These decisions are hard. They affect people we've worked with, learned from, and shared real moments with," reads Miele's email. "We're doing everything we can to support them – including finding opportunities within EA, where we've had success helping people land in new roles."
