In the wake of Volition's closure, former employees have come together to establish ShapeShifter Games to "partner with world-class developers and publishers on the creation of AAA games". The studio will focus on assisting third-party studios in game development rather than creating their own projects.
Their first venture, Clockwork Revolution, a steampunk RPG, is being developed by inXile entertainment, a studio renowned for Wasteland 2 and 3. inXile announced the partnership with ex-Volition developers on their website.
"We're happy to announce that the newly formed ShapeShifter Games – formed of ex-Volition developers – is working with us to help bring Clockwork Revolution to life," reads inXile's statement. "Shortly after Volition closed, we flew to Illinois and worked with Xbox and the then ex-Volition leadership to secure this new team as our co-development partner."

Speaking of Clockwork Revolution, the game was announced at the Xbox Games Showcase in June 2023. Set in a steampunk universe, the title promises one of its most distinctive features, the ability to travel back in time.
As for now, the game doesn't have a release date, but you can add it to your wishlist on Steam to learn more. Hopefully, we'll hear more from the developers soon and see the results of the studios' partnership.
