Exploring Real-Time Water Simulations In Unreal Engine 5.8

Jesse Pitela tests new Niagara Fluids.

Jesse Pitela, who you might know for his real-time VFX courses, has been experimenting with new real-time water simulations in Unreal Engine 5.8 using Niagara and has shared impressive results. In the video above, he spawns around 1.3 million GPU particles per second for the liquid and roughly 40,000 per second for splash and foam effects.

Here he demonstrates a water force field setup with significantly more detail, improved foam and splashing, and a true force system that repels water with varying strength instead of relying on a simple collider sphere. Everything is simulated in real time using Niagara Fluids.

According to Jesse, Niagara Fluids is up to 30% faster in Unreal Engine 5.8. If you're interested in learning more, you can join the waitlist for Niagara Liquids 5.8, Jesse's first complete liquid simulation course, which launches July 8.

You can see more of his Unreal Engine 5.8 experiments below and catch up on all the latest updates in Unreal Engine 5.8 in our coverage, including Mesh TerrainDMCMetaHuman crowds, and Zebra Sample.
