Fake Lantern Physics For Unity-Powered Wild West Survival Horror Indie Game

A new update from Sean Gause.

Sean Gause continues to work on his upcoming Western-themed survival horror game, Hear Tell of Hauntings, now demonstrating fake lantern swing movement using a custom script.

According to Sean, while he uses physics joints for other objects, like lanterns hanging from poles that react when struck or shot, these don't work well within the complex, long bone hierarchy of the player character, so he had to come up with another approach. It runs in LateUpdate, and the developer provided some details:

Sean also mentioned that Adelaide, the game's protagonist, would be able to use weapons while holding the lantern. Check out the most recent updates for Hear Tell of Hauntings:

Hear Tell of Hauntings is a third-person survival horror game where deputy Adelaide Clancy explores the eerie Wraith estate after receiving a wedding invitation from two long-deceased lovers while searching for a missing sheriff. Inspired by genre classics, the game features strategic combat and resource management, exploration-focused levels, puzzles and secrets to uncover, plus a variety of upgradable frontier-era weapons.
