Fans Try to Guess the Title of The Elder Scrolls 6

There's a theory that it's limited to eight characters, and I love the guess that it will be Skyrim 2.

Bethesda

Recently, fans anticipating the follow-up to The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim received new material for their theories about the upcoming game.

Xbox head Asha Sharma took to X/Twitter with a short note: "Live playthrough of The Elder Scrolls VI: ******** this morning," calling the game's "scale and grandeur" "incredible."

The cryptic reference didn't go unnoticed by fans, who quickly tried to guess what's hidden behind the eight asterisks. Speculation only intensified after Bethesda responded to the tweet with the same number of asterisks, seemingly confirming that the title consists of eight letters.

What could it be? IGN brings up the theory that it's Sentinel, which is the name of a coastal capital city of the Redguards in the northwestern hills of Hammerfell, which is believed to be the setting of The Elder Scrolls 6. Other options are Dominion and Iliac Bay. Also, if the number of letters is indeed determined by the asterisks, the previously suggested Hammerfell and High Rock don't quite fit this pattern.

There's another reason to think it's Sentinel: on Reddit, former Bethesda writer Michael Kirkbride responded affirmatively to a comment suggesting this title. While not an official confirmation, it certainly adds weight to the theory that it's the title.

As usual, there are a lot of humorous suggestions. In responses to Asha Sharma's tweet, players have been coming up with the craziest ideas that fit the eight-character limit: Skyrim 2, Doomsday, and more.

The Elder Scrolls 6 is reportedly at least two years away from release. Todd Howard also previously said that the new franchise installment would return to a more classic Bethesda style, compared to Fallout 76 and Starfield.
