Former Bethesda Lead Artist Looks Forward to Fallout 3's Remaster
Are you excited about the remake?
Nate Purkeypile was the Lead Artist on Fallout 3 back in 2008, and later on Fallout 76. He also worked on Skyrim, Fallout 4, and Starfield. Now, as an independent artist, he is the developer behind the horror action game The Axis Unseen. The Fallout 3 remake was announced in July of 2026, alongside the remake of Fallout: New Vegas and other projects.
In a conversation with The Examined Game on YouTube, Purkeypile talked about his time at Bethesda, revealing that he is excited about the Fallout 3 remaster: "I'm personally looking forward to that, because we were super tech-constrained making Fallout 3," he said.
He also mentioned how the release of the game wasn't what they intended, especially on the art side — they could only place some lights, the textures were small, and the memory budget was nowhere near what it is today.
For a while, he felt like some game remakes were relying on making textures a little bit bigger and adding a sharpen filter in Photoshop, without making that much of a difference. Now he thinks the latest remakes have been done well, like the Resident Evil ones.
Even though we don't have a release date yet for the Fallout 3 remaster, fans who loved the original are excited to experience a new take on it.
