Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, one of the most successful releases of 2025 and a Game of the Year winner at TGA, where it also received nine awards, has earned further recognition, as developers from Sandfall Interactive, the studio behind the RPG, were awarded knighthood by France's Ministry of Culture.
The 28 studio developers, including the founders Guillaume Broche, Tom Guillermin, and François Meurisse, received the Order of Arts and Letters (Ordre des Arts et des Lettres), a highly regarded award recognizing significant contributions to the arts, literature, or the propagation of these fields.
"This distinction honors us, and our deepest thanks go especially to our team who shaped this world and to the millions of players who have brought it to life. We hope that our journey will inspire all those who wish to take the plunge and create their own work," reads Sandfall Interactive's LinkedIn post.

French Minister of Culture Rachida Dati delivered a speech at the ceremony (via VGC), in which she outlined the contribution of Sandfall Interactive and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 to the French video game industry and highlighted the immense success of the game:
"A country that saw each and every one of you take to the stage at The Game Awards and receive nine trophies – an absolute record. And that saw you receive them… in Breton striped shirts and red berets!"
"The Clair Obscur phenomenon has become a veritable tidal wave, bringing French video games into the spotlight like rarely before."
The minister also took to X/Twitter, pointing out that Clair Obscur entered history.
The critically acclaimed RPG, set in a world inspired by Belle Époque France, sold over one million copies in only three days after its launch. Apart from the gripping plot, the game features beautiful, captivating visuals, powered by Unreal Engine 5.
