Free Custom Maya Deformer For High-End Facial Rigging

A new release from Zhenggang Deng.

Lead Rigger at Sony Pictures Imageworks, Zhenggang Deng, who has recently released meshController, has now shared interpBlendShape. It's similar to Maya's built-in blend shapes, but adds surface UV interpolation, in-between support, and Bezier-style blending instead of the usual linear interpolation.

It supports both meshes and curves. interpBlendShape is built for high-end facial rigging and special deformation setups where you need the deformation to move smoothly across a surface while keeping the results clean, stable, and easy to control. It can also be useful for creating more graphic or 2D-style deformation effects.

The tool also comes with the interpBlendShape Editor, a dedicated UI for creating, deleting, and editing deformations, which supports real-time Maya synchronization and full undo/redo.

In the demo above, you can see some practical uses, including the UV Blend mode, curve support, and GPU-accelerated performance. You can find an example Maya file here, along with more details about the deformer.
