Google Released Its Own Game Creation Platform
Playground lets you make games using AI.
Google is trying its hand at game development with Playground, a new platform for making games without coding. Promoted under the motto "If you can think it, you can play it", it allows you to create experiences right in your browser.
Not surprisingly, the "no coding" part comes from AI, which should turn all your gaming dreams into reality. Google Labs calls the platform experimental, saying its "conversational interface" will help you "direct the game just by typing what you want to build."
"Start from a blank canvas, remix starter prompts, or use guided support to shape your concept — and then test it right away. Want to tweak the physics, rewrite the rules, customize the characters, or overhaul the environment? Just ask. You stay in complete control of the creative direction from rough concept to final product."
Once your game is done, you can share it with friends or the Playground community. There are already a dozen ready for players on the site.
The gallery uses player ratings and play activity to highlight fresh and fun games. They go through Google's safety screenings to "keep the experience safe and welcoming."
But that's not all: Playground will soon offer an integration with Unity Spark, a game-generation tool by Unity itself, which offers "robust, professional-level mechanics, high-fidelity 3D capabilities, and the flexibility of the Unity runtime."
Google sees Playground as a platform designed to make game creation more approachable and ignite creativity. Alas, only US residents can try it at the moment, relying on tiered creation access rolling out based on their Google AI subscription, but more countries should be available in the future.
