"This is the most shocking thing I've seen since Arcane."
Hideo Kojima has praised the recently released Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime, saying it was "the most shocking thing" he's seen since Arcane.
"A miracle work by Netflix who planned to implant both IP Cyberpunk and [Studio] Trigger's unique sense of Cyberpunk!"
Kojima felt that famous Japanese studios were consumed by the overseas market, but Studio Trigger proved him wrong. "This is a miracle of squeezing the trigger to the world!"
He said the worldview and visuals remind him of Yoshiaki Kawajiri's "Cyber City OEDO 808" – a 1990-1991 cyberpunk video animation set in the year 2808. Kolima also confessed that he would have missed the show if the opening wasn't by Franz Ferdinand.
This is not the first time Edgerunners has been complimented by well-known persons: earlier, the Cyberpunk universe creator Mike Pondsmith also expressed his approval saying the team behind the anime "nailed it."
The series tells a standalone, 10-episode story about a street kid trying to survive in Night City — a technology and body modification-obsessed city of the future. Having everything to lose, he stays alive by becoming an edgerunner — a mercenary outlaw also known as a cyberpunk.
