Manor Lords is the most wishlisted town management game on Steam.
Players' hunger for games like Banished can never be sated, at least until a perfect specimen appears. Steam users seem to think Manor Lords could be it: it's the most wishlisted game among city builders on the platform, and the third overall.
Developer Slavic Magic describes Manor Lords as a historically accurate medieval strategy game featuring in-depth city building, large-scale tactical battles, and complex economic and social simulations.

Grow your settlement from a tiny village into a flourishing city, watching your people work diligently as the seasons change. Rule your lands as a medieval lord, manage resources and production chains, and expand your lands through conquest.

"Inspired by the art and architecture of late 14th century Franconia, Manor Lords prioritizes historical accuracy wherever possible, using it to inform gameplay mechanics and visuals alike. Common medieval tropes are avoided in favor of historical accuracy, in order to make the world feel more authentic, colorful, and believable."

The game offers full freedom of placement and rotation and building mechanics inspired by real medieval towns, where trade routes and the landscape influenced how settlements' shapes and development.
Like in Cities: Skylines, you'll get to maintain residential, commercial, and industrial districts. Taking into account soil fertility, animal populations, and other natural resources might remind you of Farthest Frontier – I'd say it is the closest recent "relative" of Manor Lords.

If it's your cup of tea, you'll have to wait until April 26, 2024, to play Manor Lords in early access. Slavic Magic wanted to bring it to the audience this year, but the game still needs some bugfixes and polish, apparently.
The city builder will be available on Steam, GOG, and PC Game Pass in April and on Xbox later.
