Horror Game from Netflix & Until Dawn's Developers Based on The Conjuring is Coming Soon
The Conjuring: Unspoken is an interactive game where you play as a demonologist.
Netflix teamed up with Supermassive Games, the developers behind Until Dawn, Little Nightmares, and The Dark Pictures anthology. Since interactive horror drama is what Supermassive Games does best, there couldn't have been a more fitting choice for The Conjuring: Unspoken.
The game is based on one of the most popular horror franchises that started with a 2013 movie, The Conjuring. The movies are inspired by the story of Ed and Lorraine Warren, famous American paranormal investigators who founded the New England Society for Psychic Research in 1952. Their most notable case is the investigation of a doll allegedly possessed by the spirit of a young girl, Annabelle. This story became the foundation of several titles within the Conjuring universe.
Netflix describes the upcoming game as "an interactive paranormal investigation." While it is based on the Conjuring universe, there is no mention of the franchise's beloved Ed and Lorraine Warren in Netflix's official announcement. In the game, you play as Francesca Noakes, a demonologist who travels to England to investigate Red Lion Inn, a haunted place full of mystery.
The Conjuring: Unspoken is a narrative game, meaning that each choice you make and each dialogue line you decide to drop shape your next steps. To help you discover the sources of paranormal activity at the inn, you have an electromagnetic field reader and an infrared camera. Once you encounter unwanted guests from another dimension, you need to catch them with a spirit box.
Netflix
The Conjuring: Unspoken is coming out on October 13. To play the game, you will need a Netflix subscription, a TV (or a PC), and a phone or a tablet. If you play on your TV, you will need your Android or iOS phone or tablet as a controller. PC users can use a mouse and a keyboard or a phone/tablet to navigate the game.
It's unclear whether the game is going to be available as a standalone PC title, because for now, it's a Netflix user-only experience. One thing is clear, though – The Conjuring: Unspoken being an interactive game is no coincidence, since Alain Tascan, president of games at Netflix, called console gaming an "older model", insisting that interacting with screens is what most younger users really crave now.
