Some tips from Entity Overload.
There are lots of tricks Game Developers use to create a sense of speed: ultimately, what the camera sees is what matters most. Camera shake, FOV changes, motion blur, and sound cues can make movement feel much faster than it really is. You can also throw in some fast-moving scenery or nearby objects.
