In This First-Person Horror, Eye Exam Pulls You Into Backrooms-Style House

Farsight from Studio Noori puts you in the shoes of a 12-year-old who sees too much – or too little – and has you using binoculars, a walkie-talkie, and a 90s handheld camera to stay safe.

In Farsight, an upcoming Unity-powered first-person horror game from Studio Noori, a medical procedure went terribly wrong.

You play as a 12-year-old boy taken to an eye exam, and the procedure ends in a twisted way – you get pulled into the house inside the machine. From then on, you need to be extra careful, as you don't see everything you need to – or sometimes, vice versa, you observe too much.

Farsight draws on a popular Backrooms-style aesthetic of liminal spaces, which you don't want to explore too far: endless fields, looping corridors, and a picture-perfect house.

You need to take extra measures for your safety and peek through keyholes, watch from a safe distance with binoculars, and use the FUNTIME-GO camera, your handheld console, which provides you with a small library of game cartridges from the 90s and takes low-resolution photos that reveal things your eyes can't see. Also, you can use a walkie-talkie to communicate with your friend, but this device is also shifty.

A similar mechanic with a camera revealing what you can't spot with the naked eye is featured in another psychological horror, The 18th Attic - Paranormal Anomaly Hunting Game, by solo developer Steelkrill.
