Dylan Browne worked with Unreal Engine, Houdini, and Substance 3D Painter.
VFX Artist Dylan Browne has showcased a beautiful translucency shader he created for a 3D CD case using Unreal Engine, Houdini, and Substance 3D Painter.
It looks wonderfully realistic, and as one X/Twitter user noted, it doesn't resemble glass, which can be hard to accomplish. Browne says it's thanks to his work with the edges: "I use Substance Painter to scuff up the edges and make it less transparent there which catches more light and gives more of a plastic feel, along with a sprinkle of edge dust and scratches."
Browne is well-known for his fantastic Unreal Engine projects, and he's no stranger to "just right" reflective materials.
His work with water, rain and cinematic droplets, in particular, is exceptional, and the Ocean System for Rendered Cinematics is especially worth checking out.
