Indie Pass Introduces Subscription Model Focused on Indie Games
Launching April 13, Indie Pass offers a low-cost subscription model designed to improve discoverability and long-term monetization for indie developers. This new initiative comes from the team at indie.io.
Today, indie.io has unveiled Indie Pass, a new subscription platform dedicated exclusively to indie games, set to launch globally for PC on April 13, 2026. The service will debut with more than 70 titles and a pricing model starting at $6.99 / €5.99 / £4.99 per month, plus an annual subscription option for less than $60 per year USD.
Unlike broader subscription services, Indie Pass focuses entirely on independent titles, offering a curated, genre-agnostic catalog that will expand over time with frequent new additions.
At its core, Indie Pass is positioned as a response to one of the industry’s most persistent challenges: discoverability.
“Indie developers create some of the most innovative games in the industry, yet discoverability remains one of their biggest challenges. Indie Pass is our answer to that: a dedicated destination where indie fans can uncover great titles, and where developers can build sustainable, ongoing monetization without exclusivity or heavy lift.”
- Jess Mitchell, Director of Growth at indie.io
The platform introduces a non-exclusive participation model, allowing developers and publishers to join without giving up distribution rights. Revenue is distributed based on player engagement time, creating a long-tail monetization approach that extends beyond traditional launch windows.
Indie Pass will launch with a mix of titles from indie.io’s existing portfolio alongside additional partner games to be announced. Confirmed games include Echoes of the Plum Grove and the Dark Deity franchise, as well as titles from partners yet to be revealed.
The platform also enters the market with a built-in audience. indie.io reports a connected network of more than 10 million monthly users across its publishing ecosystem, which could provide immediate visibility for participating titles.
Indie Pass joins a growing number of subscription services across the games industry, but distinguishes itself through its exclusive focus on indie titles and its revenue-sharing model tied to playtime.
For developers, this approach offers a potential alternative to traditional storefront discovery algorithms and front-loaded sales models. However, as with other subscription platforms, its long-term impact will likely depend on player engagement patterns and how revenue distribution scales across a larger catalog.
Indie Pass is scheduled to launch on April 13, 2026, with additional titles and platform updates expected in the weeks following release. We'll have more thoughts on the platform, as well as a deep dive interview with Jess Mitchell, closer to the service's launch.
