The new studio, called Krafton Montreal, will be led by Ubisoft's ex-Game Director Patrik Méthé.
South Korean video game developer and publisher Krafton, known primarily for creating the PUBG franchise, has announced the opening of its first Canadian development studio – Krafton Montreal.
Currently consisting of just twelve people and planning to grow to 150 employees over a period of three years, the studio will be led by Patrik Méthé, Ubisoft's ex-Game Director known to many for working on multiple Far Cry titles and Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Extraction. According to Méthé, the studio's first IP will be The Bird The Drinks Tears, Krafton's upcoming game based on a four-part fantasy series written by Yeongdo Lee, announced last year.
"Our team is currently made up of seasoned talents with a proven track record of successful games. We share a common goal: to deliver the finest adaptation of the novel and to provide an exceptional experience to gamers," commented Méthé. "As a fan of medieval fantasy since my teenage years, I'm excited to bring to life a fantasy masterpiece as an ambitious and memorable game. We couldn't be more thrilled to be a part of the Krafton family."
