Major Compositor Improvements Coming In Blender 5.0

Catch a glimpse of what's new in the next release.

It's already mid-September, which means Blender 5.0 is just around the corner, officially coming out of Alpha on October 1, 2025. We've already shared some of the upcoming features, including the integration of the ACES 2.0 color management system, which has sparked considerable interest within the community, and Thomas Marcos, whose work was featured on 80 Level multiple times, has pointed out a few more noteworthy additions.

This release will bring some big improvements to Compositor, including an Asset Shelf in the node editor and a brand-new Convolve node. It's all part of a broader effort to simplify the Compositor workflow and make it possible to complete all post-processing entirely within Blender. Another example of this is the ability to reuse Compositor node trees across multiple Blender files.

Right before that, Thomas shared that Blender 5.0 is getting Null Scattering in Cycles that eliminates blocky artifacts when volumes overlap:

Here are a few more feature highlights from artists across the community: improved SSS, expanded color management, new Geometry Nodes sockets, Grease Pencil motion blur, and more:
