Making a Cool Beach with Sprites and Old Photos

Carlos Coronado did a very interesting tutorial, showing how he created a beautiful beach for his new game Infernium.

Infernium is a survival horror game, which features some awesome non-linear levels. The game is being produced by Carlos Coronado, who keeps a beautiful video diary and regularly uploads new tutorials, showing how he does some things in this project. Today we’d love to show how he did the beautiful beach, you see in this image.

The most interesting in this piece is probably the way Carlos did the water and worked on the shader to achieve this beautiful crisp look of the stone. But we’re also amazed by the way he used some stripes and some very basic techniques from the 90s to create a fantastic realistic background. It looks really realistic, but in reality, it’s just a photo stretched over some very crude geometry!

Check out this tutorial, and be sure to subscribe to Carlos Coronado on YouTube.
