Mass Effect-Like Sci-Fi RPG Exodus Launch Date Set for 2027

Archetype Entertainment has announced that its ambitious science-fiction RPG Exodus will launch on April 7, 2027.

The release date was confirmed during Gamescom Opening Night Live alongside a new trailer featuring Salt, an intelligent octopus who operates a heavily armed mech suit. Described as a mercenary and bounty hunter, Salt joins protagonist Jun Aslan in the fight to protect their home.

Exodus is frequently compared to Mass Effect, and with good reason. Archetype Entertainment was established by former BioWare developers whose credits include Mass Effect, Baldur’s Gate, Dragon Age, and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. The studio is approaching its new universe with a similar emphasis on cinematic storytelling, recruitable companions, relationships, consequential decisions, and third-person combat.

Just like another big RPG coming next year, Warlock, Exodus is also published by Wizards of the Coast.

In Exodus, players assume the role of Jun, a salvager who becomes a Traveler and ventures across the galaxy in search of powerful Celestial technology. Jun can be customized, while the companions recruited throughout the adventure will have their own personalities, abilities, relationships, and responses to the player’s decisions.

The game’s defining narrative mechanic is time dilation. Interstellar journeys that feel relatively short to Jun can take years or even decades for the people left behind. Entire societies may consequently change between missions, turning each journey into a decision with potentially enormous personal and political repercussions.

The new trailer focuses on the growing alliance between Jun and Salt. Although the Awakened octopus has survived without depending on anyone else, circumstances force the pair to work together against Celestial enemies and hostile human forces.

Exodus is the debut game from Archetype Entertainment and has been in development for several years. The project also features actor Matthew McConaughey as the mysterious character C.C. Orlev, marking his first major role in a video game.

Exodus launches on April 7, 2027, for PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Pre-orders have not opened, but the game can currently be wishlisted across all storefronts.
