Merging Two Worlds Together In Real-Time Using Godot

Split Fiction vibes.

Godot Developer Loop_Box recently showcased a neat world-merging shader experiment that uses an SDF sphere to control visibility. All meshes here are rendered simultaneously, but each fragment checks whether it's inside the sphere and discards its pixel if it's not.

These were done in Godot 4.4, but it has just been upgraded to version 4.5, with the stencil buffer support opening the door to even more creative visual effects. Check out these great examples by Lukky and passivestar showcasing what's now possible:
