Microsoft Reportedly Helping Bethesda Upgrade Creation Engine With Unreal-Inspired Tech
It's said to be for Starfield 2.0.
We all know how Bethesda games can be: you want to enjoy them, but the engine's flaws are hard to ignore. Jez Corden, Executive Editor at Windows Central and host of the Xbox Two Podcast, recently shared rumors about a major Starfield update planned for 2026, often called Starfield 2.0, and mentioned that Microsoft is helping Bethesda upgrade Creation Engine.
Apparently, Microsoft's Advanced Technology Group and Gears of War developer The Coalition are working together to improve the engine "across the board" by incorporating components inspired by Unreal Engine.
The Starfield 2.0 upgrade is more than just a game update, it will act as a test platform for Bethesda's next big projects, including Fallout 5 and The Elder Scrolls 6. Jez stresses that this information comes from his research and rumors, so it should be taken cautiously. He also makes it clear that Bethesda isn't moving to Unreal Engine, they're just giving Creation Engine a boost.
