Todd Howard Confirms Once Again That Amazon's Fallout Show is Canon
Fallout 5 will reference the events from the series somehow, Bethesda boss says.
The second season of Amazon's TV adaptation of the Fallout franchise has hit the screens, and based on what we saw in Season 1 – coupled with Bethesda's notorious tendency to rewrite lore established by Interplay and Obsidian to fit its own goals, stories, and agendas – many expect we're in for eight episodes of historical revisionism and lore rewrites, both minor and those of prime importance for the fans.
Reminding us that, regardless of the stories told in Fallout 1, 2, and New Vegas, Amazon's version represents how events really unfolded, is Bethesda's head honcho Todd Howard, who has once again reaffirmed that the TV show is canon in a recent interview.

Having already caused widespread confusion within the Fallout community by making the TV series canon back in 2023, Howard has now truly hammered the point home by confirming to the BBC that the events of the show will have an impact on Fallout 5, presumed to be the next Fallout game to release.
"Fallout 5 will be existing in a world where the stories and events of the show happened or are happening," he added, implying that – unlike previous Bethesda-developed Fallout titles – the fifth installment will be set on the West Coast and may even unfold alongside the show's events, circa 2296.
Echoing this sentiment is Emil Pagliarulo, Bethesda's Design Director and a living embodiment of that "you either die a hero or live long enough to become the villain" proverb, who stated that the decision to make the TV show canon, meaning "everything that happens in the show happened in the games, or will happen in the games," was made early in production, raising questions as to why this approach didn't work in the opposite direction and why established rules and events from the game universe were instead rewritten for the show.
